Cancellation times from car company - too short notice no help/compensation for onward flights

It was annoying to have to pay a bond to the rental company, even though I took out full insurance and have rented from them many times before. :(

The car was returned early and then I received chaser calls and emails advising it was late - better communication internally within the company could have avoided that.

It would be good to know who the rental car companies are before we book. Also it would be good to be able to write a note to the rental car company before locking in the contract. For instance, when I see a transfer that is just about to run out on the site, it would be good to ask if it's possible to extend the time available - because they must be going to relist it.
